The board of the Eurasian Economic Commission on November 24 canceled the rate of import customs duty on certain types of photographic plates and photographic films for a period of three years, the EEC press service reported.
Now the rate is 5%.
Photographic plates are one of the most important components for offset printing. They are a thin metal or polymer substrate on which a light or temperature sensitive receiving layer and other auxiliary layers are located. Offset printing plates are used for the manufacture of packaging, book, magazine and newspaper products. That is, the main consumption of such plates is attributed to printing companies that print medium and large runs.
However, the production of offset printing plates in the states of the Eurasian Economic Union is absent, and the implementation of relevant investment projects in the medium term is not planned. Therefore, the need for the specified product is covered exclusively by imports, and the zeroing of the duty will help reduce the cost of printed products and increase the competitiveness of enterprises in the printing industry.
"Currently, the printing industry is experiencing a difficult situation, characterized by a sharp drop in demand across the entire range of products, including print media and publishing, advertising and commercial sectors. The decision taken will reduce prices for a wide range of printing products, including textbooks and children's literature," said Vahagn Ghazaryan, Director of the EEC Department of Customs Tariff and Non-Tariff Regulation.
